The U.S. Armys contract security guard program does not ensure that potential guards are adequately screened, a recent report says. The Department of Defense temporarily allowed the Army to award contracts worth $733 million for guards to protect 57 domestic Army installations. The report says the Army needs to significantly improve its process for performing background checks on potential guards. The GAO suggested that the secretary of defense improve the management of the contract guard program, and increase its oversight. The DoD generally agreed with the report and noted that the Department of Army is already working on them.”]
