FCC tells ISPs to get customer permission before sharing sensitive info

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission votes 3-2 to adopt new broadband privacy rules. The rules require broadband providers to receive opt-in customer permission to share sensitive personal information with third parties. Backers of the new rules say they are necessary after the FCC reclassified broadband as a regulated, common-carrier service in net neutrality rules passed in February 2015. The new rules also require ISPs to provide customers with clear notices about information they collect, how it may be used, and with whom it is shared.”]
