DDoS attack on Dyn came from 100,000 infected devices

Friday’s internet disruption came from hackers using an estimated 100,000 devices, DNS provider Dyn says. Many of these devices have been infected with the Mirai malware, which can take over cameras and DVRs. Mirai-infected devices are able to launch exceptionally large DDoS attacks due to their sheer numbers and their access to high internet bandwidth connectivity. It’s possible the hackers behind Friday’s attack may have launched an even more powerful DDoS attack, security expert says. Other botnets were also involved, according to internet backbone provider Level 3 Communications.”]
