North Korean hackers charged in massive cryptocurrency theft scheme

Three North Korean computer programmers are accused of conducting a series of cyberattacks to extort more than $1.3 billion in cash and cryptocurrency from financial institutions and companies. The programmers are part of a North Korean military intelligence agency, the DOJ says. A Canadian-American citizen, 37, agreed to plead guilty in a money-laundering scheme, and admitted to helping the indicted North Koreans “cash-out” their “cyber-enabled bank heist” The case comes as the price of bitcoin has jumped by more than 400% over the past 12 months.”]
