ATM Malware Retooled to Strike More Machines

Malware called Ploutus-D has gone “multivendor” with a new version that’s compatible with a type of middleware deployed by banks at ATMs around the world. This development vastly expands cybercriminals’ list of potential targets. Cybercriminals have added libraries allowing them to issue commands via Kalignite to query how much money is in an ATM’s dispenser or open its dispenser. The latest version, called “Ploutus,” is compatible with most of the world’s ATMs run on Windows.”]
