Russia analyzes Fake News Bill to allegedly stop proliferation of deceitful content

The Russian government is considering legislation that would hold websites and social media networks accountable for the content posted on their platforms. The State Duma, the lower house of parliament, is for now only analyzing the bill. In its current form, it addresses sites with more than 100,000 daily visitors and comment sections, which have to be monitored 24/7. Unless fake news and comments are deleted within 24 hours, the website administrators face a fine of up to $800,000. Russian digital law is already strict, with users who post pro-gay or extremist content facing both prison and fines.”]
