8 Million-Record Data Breach Claim ‘Grossly Unsubstantiated,’ Says Best Western

The Sunday Herald reports that a hacker breached the IT defenses of the Best Western group’s online booking system. The paper claims that 8 million customer records were taken. Best Western says it counts a mere 13 records that may have been exposed as a result of “suspicious activity” A Best Western spokesperson says it is working with the FBI and international authorities to investigate the source of the other claims. “We have found no evidence to support the sensational claims ultimately made by the reporter and newspaper,” the spokesperson says.”]
