Of all criminal offences committed in the United Arab Emirates, 70 percent are cyber crimes, a top official has said. Major Saeed Mohammad Al Hajeri, head of the information technology crime department of Dubai, gave a lecture at the Institute of Training and Judicial Studies in Sharjah. He said criminals are keeping up with new developments in information technology, and make the maximum use of any new software or system that comes with any security gap or loophole, he said. Among the most common crimes are providing illegal VoIP calls, which is the preferred method of communication for drug smugglers and human traffickers.
