June has been quite the month for news of cyber extortion, ransomware, and hacking hostage taking. Code Spaces was hit by a DDoS attack and then extorted by a hacker who had gained control of the firm’s Amazon EC2 control panel. Nokia was forced to pay millions of euros in extortion money in 2007 after a hacker stole an encryption key in its Symbian operating system.
