4 Barriers to Hiring DHS InfoSec Experts

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management has OK’d DHS to hire 1,000 cybersecurity specialists. The hiring process is “absolutely brutal,” an adviser to the Federal Communications Commission’s CIO says. There’s a shortfall of more than 200,000 IT security specialists in the United States. Some jobs might require specific academic and certification credentials. But some qualified experts could perform the tasks required without academic degrees or cybersecurity credentials, a NIST expert says.
