Hector Diaz was involved in the series and has experience in IT networking and IT security and possesses a diverse skillset. He recapped that the threat landscape in the Caribbean region has evolved to incorporate new techniques and covers a wider spectrum of targets.
Every year, more companies and consumers depend on technological services, making cybersecurity increasingly important. In the 2016 Verizon Data Breach Report, 93% of the analysed cases, systems were compromised in minutes, and data exfiltration occurred within minutes in 28% of the cases. In 83% of the cases, the victims did discover the breach until weeks after. There is room for improvement in the region, especially with a growing and more visible threat of ransomware.
