5.8% of all Amazon S3 storage buckets are publicly readable, while 2% are publicly writeable. The latter allows anyone to add, edit, or delete data, and even hold a victim’s data for ransom. French cyber-security company HTTPCS carried out a new survey of 100,000 S3 buckets from September 2017. The new survey’s results were compiled in an infographic, to be easier to digest. Bleeping Computer report last week warned that such buckets could be abused for data ransom attacks.
